PERFORMING ARTS: FILM:

Film Production Classes held in the Ballroom of the historic home, enter through the lower door on the east side.

Film Production Series: In a series of 2 & 4 week classes, The Concepts of Creating an Artzy Film will be explored with screenwriter, actor and visual artist, Lena Liozzi.  Recommended for those ages 10 through adult.

Lena Liozzi has studied the Sanford Meisner technique in Los Angeles for over 20 years with veteran actor David Proval and Creative Actor Studies with Robert Viharo. A member of City Garage Theater in Santa Monica and West End Theater in West Los Angeles, Lena is a gifted screenwriter now active as an actor/writer in Utah Women in Film and Utah's growing independent film market.

Writing A Short Film:  What makes characters interesting?  How do we create an interesting plot?  What makes good dialog?  In this class, students will explore storytelling; construction of a thesis, and how to write a 10 to 15 page script effortlessly.  Special exercises will be used to enlighten  and to open creative exploration.  For all genre, PG13.

Mondays, January 9 through February 6, 2012 (class will not be held on January 16th).

Looking for Unique Characters & The Audition:  Working with a script, how do we find actors?  From posting an ad, to seeing the actors; the audition process is exciting and painstaking.  In this brief session, we will develop characters further and actually set an audition night for our film projects as well as set the dates for filming in the Spring 2012.

Tuesdays, February 21 & 28, 2012

6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Tuition: $25 members,  $30 nonmembers.

Location– Location: Having a script and a cast is the first half, now we need to look for special locations.  The location          speaks to the writer/director and may offer more  than the script conveys.  In this session, students will actually go on location, take photos and more!

Thursdays, March 8 & 15, 2012

6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Tuition: $25 members, $30 nonmembers.

Film Shooting & Directing on Location: Students who have developed scripts, have actors set and ready to go, will obtain first hand direction assistance with the final phases of shooting a short film, wardrobe, make-up, working with the actors, and the camera!

Saturdays, April 21 through May 12, 2012

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon

Tuition: $50 members, $60 nonmembers.

DANCE:ADULT/CHILD: (Classes held in Dance building, parking available on east side, enter parking from Orchard street.)

African Dance: Introductory program of African dance taught in an invigorating atmosphere.  Move with polyrhythm, which are the basis of African dance and many other popular dance forms, such as hip hop and stomp.  Explore the cultural significance of the dances.  African–based movement is a great aerobic workout and it is fun!  No experience is necessary.  Any age is welcome.  (Children may take class if accompanied by a parent.)

Instructor: Déjà   Mitchell, B.S., Modern Dance, Utah State University.  She has studied African dance and drumming  for over 15 years with numerous renowned teachers.   

Session I: six week: January 23 through February 27, 2012

Session II: six weeks: March 5 through April 9, 2012

Mondays, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. 

Tuition/session: $42 members, $45 nonmembers.  $125 family (up to four participants, at least one an adult)

Generations Dance: A beginning level African dance class, geared towards those who are over 50 or are looking for a fun, low impact exercise class for staying or getting into shape.  You will gently be guided and inspired by Deja, an experienced dance instructor and the wonderful music and rhythms of Africa!

Children are welcome in the class if accompanied by a parent or grandparent.

Tuition/session: Adults: $30 members, $33 nonmembers. Children: $4/class.

Tribal Fusion Belly Dance: Learn the basic belly dance language. Feel sensual and strong. Tribal fusion belly dance is a blend of styles and cultures--from India, to North Africa, to New York urban. A fun, full-body workout that will make you feel transformed.   

All levels and ages welcome.

Middle Eastern (Belly)  Dance: Technique: A review of basic moves and steps used in Middle Eastern dance with emphasis on technique and simple combinations. Belly dance (in Arabic, “Raqs Sharki”, dance Oriental) is a fun way to socialize and benefit from physical activity.  All levels, ages welcome.

Zuhra Zakiyah, Candace Baker, has studied locally, and has added to her education by attending a multitude of workshops with professional internationally  known  dancers.  She has attended the Middle Eastern Music and Dance Camp in Mendocino.  Zuhra has traveled through Egypt, Morocco and Turkey dancing informally many times with the locals. She is familiar with the different styles of Middle Eastern dance along with the  rhythms and regions of many folk styles.

DANCE: ADULTS:

Soul Meets Body: A Moving Meditation through Dance: Join us for a weekly dance session that moves your body, releases your heart, and frees your mind, allowing you to connect to the essence of your soul, the source of  inspiration where you can access unlimited possibilities and potential.

This class is loosely based on the 5 Rhythm  Method.  The instruction is minimal which allows you to dance the way you prefer to dance within a group of people, who also enjoy moving.  The music will be uplifting, and will guide you through a wave of energy, allowing you a full range of expression, and leaving you feeling more balanced and centered.

December 5, 2011 through March 26, 2012 (class will not be held on December 26th or January 2nd).

Mondays, 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.                        

Tuition: Drop-in (daily): $7 members, $8 nonmember.   Monthly: $25 members,  $30 nonmembers. 

Woman’s Dance and Vitality: Tamara Anderson and Britta Visser Stumpp team up to offer a class designed to help women express their natural beauty, grace and feminine power through dance, meditation and sharing.  This workshop integrates a fusion of Women's dance traditions, including but not limited to Middle Eastern, Latin and Caribbean movement to assist women in celebrating their body's natural wisdom and fluidity combined with ancient Chinese healing practices to further connect them to their vital life force. Dance is barefoot or in soft soled shoes. No prior experience is necessary; perfect for both beginners and intermediate dancers. Students may chose to bring a journal for charting their inner journey."

Virginia Tanner Creative DanceThe Virginia Tanner creative dance program focus is on the whole child.  Through movement exploration,   dancers reach progressive levels of physical skill and are taught the vocabulary of dance.  Exploring the creativity and imagination of childhood, dancers have the opportunity to improvise, engage in creative problem solving and grow in cognitive, social and emotional ways as they interact in class.  Each class has a musical accompanist to expose dancers to a variety of music genres.  Throughout  class, dancers will have the opportunity to incorporate art and art forms into their learning.

Tribal Rhythms: Drums: Explore the basics of drumming.  Traditional African rhythms and djembe techniques will be taught.  We will have a facilitated drum circle, so you  can get playing and have fun!

High-quality African drums (djembes) and instruments will be supplied for class use.  Or you may bring your own to play.

Class Policies: Advanced registration is required for all classes; registration fees are required to be paid 10 days prior to the start date of the class/workshop.  Space may be reserved by phone; the registration fees may be mailed or delivered to the art center.   All classes have minimum and maximum enrollment.  The Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes with low registration.  Every effort is made to notify those registered of cancellations or postponements.  Fees for canceled classes are fully refundable.

Withdrawals/Refunds: For multiple date classes, refunds will be made available for students withdrawing from classes within the first week, prior to the day of the second class.  For single date classes refunds are available only if students withdraw one week prior to the class.  Class fees after these dates are non-refundable.  A $5.00 withdrawal processing fee may be charged.
