DANCE: CHILD/TEEN:
Virginia Tanner Creative Dance: The Virginia Tanner creative dance program focus is on the whole child. Through movement exploration, dancers reach progressive levels of physical skill and are taught the vocabulary of dance. Exploring the creativity and imagination of childhood, dancers have the opportunity to improvise, engage in creative problem solving and grow in cognitive, social and emotional ways as they interact in class. Each class has a musical accompanist to expose dancers to a variety of music genres. Throughout class, dancers will have the opportunity to incorporate art and art forms into their learning.

ADULT/CHILD:
African-Based: Introductory program of African-based movement taught to an invigorating beat. All levels of dancers are welcome. This is a great aerobic workout for everyone. Children/ parents and families are invited to this class. Class size is set at a minimum of 6 students.

Tuition: $42 members, $45 nonmembers. $125 family (up to four participants at least one an adult)
Tribal Rhythms – Drum and Movement Class: Explore the basics of drumming. We will have a facilitated drum circle, so you can get playing and have fun! Traditional African rhythms and djembe techniques as well as other tribal styles will be taught. Put the rhythm into your step. Move with polyrhythms, which are the basis of African dance and many other popular dance forms, such as hip hop and stomp.
High-quality African drums (djembes) and instruments will be supplied for class use. Or you may bring your own to play. Class size is set at a minimum of 6 students.

African Dance & Drum: Master teacher, dancer and drummer, Abdoulaye Camara of Guinea, West African
will be offering Drumming and African Movement workshops with Deja Mitchell. All levels are welcome. Pre-
registration is requested.
Drum workshop: May 30th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Dance workshops: May 30th from 7 to 8:30 and May 31st from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Tuition: $20/class.

Introduction to Violin/ Fiddle: An eight week workshop for student with parent. Child must have violin, parent instrument is optional. This workshop is a fun introduction to playing the violin and reading music. Parents will help their children to review the lessons during the week. Marie Griffith uses a unique and especially successful blend of traditional and Suzuki teaching styles to create a class that is enjoyable, exciting and instructional. Students will learn basic playing technique and how to play simple folk songs and fiddle tunes. Music and other materials will be provided. Class size is set at a maximum of 6 students, and requires a registration of 2 to be held.

Wednesday, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Ages: 6-9 years old with parent
Tuition: $100 members,
$110 nonmembers.
Introduction to Violin/Fiddle: This is an eight week workshop. Students need to provide their own instrument which is in good playing condition. Marie Griffith will teach basic playing techniques, fiddle-style bowing and beginning improvisation techniques as well as basic note-reading. If you’ve always wanted to play the violin, this is your chance to learn in a fun, supportive environment with a very enthusiastic and experienced teacher. Class size is set at a maximum of 10 students, and requires a minimum registration of 2 students.
Marie Griffith has recently moved to Ogden. She attended the University of Utah and then moved to California, Pennsylvania, and Georgia with her husband (and son). She has taught and performed extensively throughout the West and especially enjoys the opportunity to start new beginners on a path to enjoying the violin for a lifetime. Ms. Griffith holds degrees in education and in violin performance and has taught over 200 private students in groups, private lessons and at the university level. Several of her students have become professionals, but more importantly….many of them continue to play the violin for their own pleasure.
