Fine art photography, paintings, drawings and  Ukrainian eggs  will be featured at the Eccles Community Art Center, 2580 Jefferson avenue, Ogden in February. The Main Gallery will open a juried exhibition of photography from the 20th Statewide Photographic Competition.  The exhibitions will open Friday, February 3 and continue on display through Saturday, March 25, 2017.   The Carriage House Sales Gallery will feature the work of artist Jennifer Sorenson and her students that attend the artist’s open studio at the ECAC.  An artists’ reception at which awards will be posted is scheduled for February 3rd from 5 to 8p.m.,  The public is invited to attend.
The 20th Statewide Photographic Competition will feature recent (within the last two years) original photographs by resident Utah photographers. As this is a juried competition only works accepted by the juror will be displayed.

Awards presented at the opening reception will include monetary awards, four Honorable Mentions and a $300 Best of Show award.   This year, two new awards will be presented a student recognition award given to a participant 18 years or younger and an award given in honor/memory of photographer and ECAC member/volunteer Paul W. Muller who recently passed away.  This project has received funding from grants provided by Ogden City Arts, the Utah Division of Arts and Museums, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Artist Jennifer Sorenson has been teaching at the Eccles Community Art Center for the past five years.  Previously, she was an art teacher at Snowcrest Junior High for the Weber County School District.  At the ECAC, she supervises an artist open studio class which meets Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and she teaches from her home in Ogden Valley.  She and students from the class will be exhibiting works that they have created and finished during class.  Her students include Amber Angstrum, Diane Baker, Connie Cox, Judy Crandall, Valarie Dinkel, Allene Everett, Bonnie Galbraith, Shelley Geddes, Makayla Geddes, Lexi Gunderson, Sandra Jenkins, Lizzy Kraft, Debby Lowe, Sally Miller, Cara Neilsen, Trish Painter, Stacey Phelps, Linda Porter, Sue Roane, Carolyn Robertson,  Lori Thomas, Joni Wall and Lindsey Wolthuis.

We invite to you to visit the exhibits and the Eccles Community Art Center. Main gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Carriage House Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
