Ogden’s Public Art Teacher Guide
The purpose for our Public Art hunt is to bring awareness to the youth that art is available to them in many different forms and forums. We feel it is an important part of society and that we should never loose sight of how important it is to beautify a city through public art.
Please distribute the flyer to your students and ask them
if they recognize any of the pieces. If they do, have them tell you where they
have seen the artwork and help them match the piece to the address. Challenge
your students to find the pieces that they do not recognize and to let you know
when they locate one. As a class, try and complete the hunt. Once all pieces
are located, instruct the students to bring their flyer into the Art Center for
a prize.
Encourage students to write down any piece of public art that they see that is not included in the hunt.
Encourage students to make their own Public Art. Remind the kids the projects they have done, and will do at the school that is displayed for everyone to see is public art!
Additional learning opportunities:
Introduce your students to finding addresses using street signs
Have students draw their favorite Public Art piece
Lead a discussion on the Fiberglass horses found adorning Ogden’s streets From July through November
Educate your students that as they visit Ogden City’s Christmas Village, they are viewing public Art of many different types, especially diorama.
